Dear Mt. Vernon Family,

In the opening pages of the Bible we see God resting from His work on the seventh day. God set the example for us that rest is a good thing. Jesus told the Pharisees the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath Mar 2:27. With the rise of covid-19 in Houston, the lack of leadership from our federal government, the political unrest, the racial injustice, not to mention our day to day work and care for our families, it is easy for us to become emotionally and physically drained. These are unprecedented times and we must find rest for our souls. Like David we may wish that we had wings like a dove to fly away and be at rest. Thankfully we serve a God who invites us to rest, particularly when we are limited in changing our situation. David said, rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass Psa. 37:7. Pray, trust God and rest in Him.
