Greetings Mt. Vernon Family,
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you Jam 1:5.
Sometimes we are faced with decisions that will affect our lives in a profound way. According to James 1:5 if we lack wisdom, we can ask God who will give wisdom to us generously. He will not scold us or put us down for what we do not know. Divine wisdom is key in discerning truth from error, good from evil, an acceptable way or the best way. But how do we know we have received wisdom from above? God’s wisdom is pretty straight forward; it is practical and measurable. James 3:17 tells us wisdom from above looks like the following:
Pure innocent, not self-seeking and no ulterior motive
Peaceable calm, peace loving, not competitive
Gentle it does not insist on having its way
Willing to yield ready to submit to the will of God
Compassionate ready to help those in need
Impartial no favoritism, discriminating against no one
Without hypocrisy completely sincere, above board, and transparent
These qualities help us assess whether we or those we are seeking to make decisions with or about are operating in the wisdom of God.
Amen!
Pastor Deborah Giles
