Greetings Mt. Vernon Family,
When Peter saw him (John), he asked, "Lord, what about him?" Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me Joh 21:21-22.”
Peter, just as many believers today had a problem keeping his eyes on Jesus. Peter actually walked on water before he got distracted by the wind and began to sink. In John 21:18-21, Jesus tells Peter what things he will suffer by following Him. Peter asks Jesus, “Lord what about him,” meaning his fellow disciple John. Again, Peter takes his eyes off Jesus wanting to know John’s business with Jesus. Jesus redirects Peter by saying, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me Joh 21:22.” If we are not careful, we can become distracted by the storms of life or comparing our lives to others. In Psalm 73, the Psalmist almost lost his footing. He was distracted by the prosperity of the wicked until he went to the sanctuary of God and understood their end. Jesus is redirecting believers today saying, “What is that to you?” Follow Me!”
Take courage!
