Hello Mt. Vernon Church Family,
Friends, we are approaching our largest holiday celebration season, which includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Valentine’s Day. Are you in a celebrating frame of mind? Do you know if you will be able to cope during these times of togetherness with family and friends? Are you ready to laugh and be joyful? How much can you handle?
I ask these questions because it is important that you know how you want to spend these holidays. Be honest with yourself and make a plan according to your ability to handle the pressures of hosting, cooking, planning activities, and loving on others. If you are having a difficult time readjusting to your normal pattern of celebrating the holidays, change your plans and establish a new normal. You must do what is best for your physical and emotional health. Try not to totally isolate yourself with a pity party, however. Make a plan to do something like spending time in the park, helping serve the homeless, go to the theatre, spend time with an elderly person, take long walks, spend time in worship at church or in your home, spend the day thanking God for all your blessings and name each blessing.
