Greetings Mt. Vernon Family,
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Joh 16:33
We are living in unprecedented times that test our faith. An erratic leader at the highest level of our government, and a pandemic has conspired to expose the deep-seated racism and white privilege that has existed for centuries in America. Americans watched as a protest in our nation’s capital turned violent on Wednesday. Many African Americans are shocked and hurt while some are just plain numb from four years of heighten assault on their sensibilities. In John 16:33, Jesus spoke to the disciples about the things they would suffer in this world and His impending death. He gave them advance warning so they might look to HIM for peace rather than the world. This word applies to us today. We must quit expecting the world to give us the peace that only Christ can give. When we make Christ our PEACE, we are not disappointed, dismayed or disillusioned, but we take courage and we are of good cheer because we too are overcomers in Christ Jesus.
Amen!
Pastor Deborah Giles
