Greetings Mt. Vernon Family,

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist… (Ephesians 6:14)

In Ephesians 6:11, Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God. The whole armor is God’s divine gear that protects us defensively and offensively against the tricks and deception of Satan and his demons. Satan’s battleground is in our minds. Paul says in Ephesians 6:14, “stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist.” In Paul’s day, the soldier’s belt held everything together, the clothes underneath as well as the breast plate. The sword in its sheath hangs on the belt. In spiritual warfare - where Satan attacks our minds with lies, deceptions, half-truths and alternative facts, it is God’s truth that holds us together and keeps us from falling prey to Satan’s lies. As with the soldier’s belt, our offensive weapon hangs on the truth. Our source of truth is Christ. Jesus is the way the TRUTH and the life (John 14:6). The Father has sent us the Spirit of truth to guide us into all truth. Spend time with God in Scripture and prayer. Stand your ground and fasten the belt of truth around your waist. We are soldiers in the army of God.
