Greetings Mt. Vernon Family,

And take the helmet of salvation… Ephesians 6:17

After arming ourselves with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, having our feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace and taking shield of faith, we must take up the helmet of salvation. In Paul’s day the soldier’s helmet protected his head from injuries and fatal blows. Swords could not pierce the helmet. Paul tells us to take up the helmet of salvation as part of our spiritual armor. In 1 Thessalonians 5:8, the Hope of salvation is our helmet. The Hope of Salvation is the assurance that we have been born again, saved, justified, redeemed. At the moment a Christian is born again he or she is marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives within every believer and He testifies to our spirit that we are God's children Rom 8:16. Without the Holy Spirit as our inner witness, Satan would constantly assault our minds with lies to make us doubt our justification and God’s love. If we were in constant doubt of our justification, we could lose hope. Taking the helmet of salvation means we stand confident in who we are because we know to Whom we belong. For the Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit giving us assurance. Amen.

Be Richly Blessed,

Pastor Deborah Giles
