Greetings Mt. Vernon Family,
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:20).
This is the fourth Sunday in our season of advent. We light the candle of love and the Christ candle this Sunday, December 19th. As we live through this time of racial inequity, pandemic, and political corruption, we must remember that our citizenship is in heaven. We pray, “Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Christ rules and reigns in the hearts of all born again believers. So, His kingdom is both now and yet to come. The lighting of the advent candles reminds us that there is Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love in Christ Jesus our Lord NOW, no matter what is happening in the world. So, we live in anticipation of the Saviors return. We look forward to a government free of corruption, ruled by One who loves us and died for us. He is “KING of KINGS and LORD of LORD.”
Amen!
Pastor Deborah Giles
